In the midst of a successful career in sales and marketing, I took a basic HTML (hypertext markup language) class in 1995.  This was a time when the World Wide Web was still "new".  I went on to take various computer classes and completed a Webmaster Certificate with Distinction through Penn State's Abington Campus in 1999. (Bachelors of Business Administration from the College of William & Mary in Virginia completed many years prior!)

I hand coded all projects, and it wasn't until working on the Church of the Holy Family site that I taught myself how to use a web editor, FrontPage 2000.  I liked that FrontPage preserved my coding.  It also made it easy to train the church secretary to take over routine updates.  Using FrontPage for forms and other server side scripts means I don't have to dust off my Perl (a programming language) books!

When working on the Holy Family site in 2000, I was made aware of the benefits of marking up sites to make them accessible to people with disabilities.  This concept of universal design appeals to me.  You can read more about this topic on my Resources pages.  The sites listed on my Portfolio page use accessible design to varying degrees.

I stay current on Web trends and teach myself new techniques as I have a need for them.  I enjoy the technical aspects, writing copy, and the marketing aspects of site design. Check out my web design page for more information. Let me help you get a website that generates results!
